After one Las Vegas trip, you’ve likely covered all of the big attractions — the Bellagio fountains, the High Roller, the Eiffel Tower. But there’s much more to Vegas than those Strip landmarks. In this ever-changing city, there’s always a crop of bars and restaurant popping up and new places to explore.
We chatted with Matt Moraca, director of Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Skylofts at MGM Grand, a Court of Master Sommeliers certificate holder and a seven-year Vegas resident, to get an insider’s perspective on the city. Moraca gave us some quick tips on where to go off-Strip for an under-the-radar activity and how to get the best view in Sin City.
What is the best way to spend one day in Vegas?
Visitors should start their vacation relaxing at the spa and pool. Grand Spa at MGM Grand is one of my favorite spas to spend that day at. Guests also don’t want to miss out on the phenomenal steak offerings at Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak at MGM Grand or Stripsteak at Mandalay Bay.
I recommend taking a helicopter tour of Las Vegas Boulevard to get the best views of the city.
What’s new in the city?
The Las Vegas Aces tipped off its first season of WNBA competition at Mandalay Bay Events Center this past May, becoming the second major professional sports team in Las Vegas. We are proud to be able to take this next step in continuing to grow our city!
What is Vegas’ most underrated attraction?
SlotZilla Zip Line on Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas.
What are some great bars to get a drink?
Skyfall Lounge at Delano Las Vegas offers an incredible view of the city and a great, innovative cocktail menu.
Herbs and Rye is located right off of the Strip and offers excellent cocktails as well.
What are the hottest restaurants right now?
Morimoto at MGM Grand and Harvest at Bellagio. I recommend Sparrow and Wolf for the best dinner off of the Strip.
Give us your favorite insider tip.
I always recommend that guests plan in advance. Las Vegas is a city of vast possibilities and utilizing the concierge at each property is a must.
